Dear Suzanne, Valentine's Day! There is a lot of pressure on Valentine's Day, a few expectations, some written sentiments, perhaps the right gift. Valentine's Day is a day we focus on love, honor, respect and valuing of our spouse and kids and even, as I type, our staff is just outside my door getting ready for the EK Valentine's Party with flowers, chocolate (my favorite) and something in a crock pot. We pulled names of people in our office to get them $5.00 worth of their favorite candy to show them they are loved, valued and respected. Tonight we are having a Valentine's party, with our kids. A night of fun, "kid friendly" food (lets be honest, they are chicken nuggets) and games the kids want to play all because of Valentine's Day, the day of love. I like Eugene Peterson's "The Message" version of 1 Corinthians 13:1, it says, "If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love, I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate." Love certainly is a feeling but it's also an act of the will. Let's oil that rusty gate in 1 Corinthians 13:1 with a little love today.
Much Love to ya! Craig craig@empoweringkids.net
